Spilamberto
Spilamberto is a town with about 12 thousand inhabitants, located 15 Km south of Modena, just at the the foot of the first hills of the Apennines.
Since its origins, that go back to the first years of 1200, Spilamberto has been characterised by the vivacity and initiative of its inhabitants, fanciful performers of a small reality which is extremely full of new ideas and initiatives, and creators of an economic, cultural and a social wealth.
Spilamberto is “al paes di mat” (the town of the crazy people), a definition that has been given thanks to the genuine craziness of its inhabitants. This town – which is a rich and variegated industrial centre - finds its strength on amusement park rides and facilities production. Moreover, the town ranges from mechanics to chemistry, from electronics to meat production in the industrial field.
Spilamberto takes pride in its Traditional Balsamic Vinegar (Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale), of which it can be considered the production centre. Here there are the Association and the Museum of Traditional Balsamic Vinegar. Each year during the Fair of San Giovanni Battista (on the 24th June) – one of the most important fairs in the area which hundreds of local producers attend - the famous Palio of San Giovanni is given, as a prestigious acknowledgment to the best balsamic vinegar.
Other gastronomic prestigious specialities are Spilamberto's Amaretti, typical sweets with a unique almond taste, and the walnut liqueur Nocino. Close to the Tower there is the Order of Walnut Liqueur of Modena.
A town to discover, able to impress each visitor.
